Thousand Acres Market was a design proposal for a grocery store, café, and bakery, including a full commercial kitchen, in View Royal, BC. The new community-focused market signaled a renewed commitment to the city’s public realm. Positioned at the intersection of Helmcken Road and the Island Highway, the market was envisioned as a central public-facing amenity designed to bring new life to an inactive street edge. To make the most of this opportunity, the design aligned the liveliest program elements along the glass frontage, energizing the street and inviting pedestrian activity. AMCA developed a comprehensive schematic design package including a complete code and bylaw analysis, space planning, regulatory drawings, and preliminary renderings.
